Why Choice Is Your Greatest Power

It’s true that all of us have to deal with the circumstances around us, and that those circumstances can be pretty challenging. Money problems, employment difficulties, family issues and medical problems are all big factors in our lives, and they can make things pretty difficult. But one important thing to remember is that these circumstances, no matter how unpleasant, don’t take away our power to choose. That’s our biggest benefit – the ability to take control of our lives and turn them around, if we’re willing to do it. Here’s a look at how the power of choice can actually be one of the best and most important things in our lives.

Our lives, our day to day existence, and even our personalities are influenced by the circumstances around us, from the moment we’re born. But those circumstances aren’t destiny. What we want and what we really need out of life can shape our circumstances as much as our circumstances shape us. One of the biggest and most important things we have control over is the way we think and what we do. We can choose to have a more optimistic worldview, and to be willing to face whatever life brings us, no matter how hard it is. That’s what puts us on a position to control our own lives and our own destinies.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy. You might hear people put others down for their failure to choose success, but not everyone has the same circumstances to fight. Problems like debt, medical issues, the need to care for a family member, or emotional troubles like depression can make it a lot harder for one person to succeed than for another. But in the end, the power to get there still rests in choice. If you decide to go for what you’ve always wanted, there’s no guarantee you’ll succeed. However, if you choose never to try, you’ll never end up reaching your dreams. It’s simply impossible to get anywhere without making a choice.

We all have a lot of the same things inside us: happiness and sadness, love and hate, despair and optimism. Not everyone has them in the same quantities, but the choice of which to pursue always comes from inside. That means that every one of us has the option to choose optimism over pessimism, and to believe in our ability to improve our lives. Without that choice, it’ll never get better. No one can do it for us – this is the kind of effort that has to come from within each and every one of us.

But is it too late for you? It can seem like you’ve reached the bottom sometimes, or like things have gone so wrong that nothing can fix them. But the truth of the matter is that we can make a change at any time. The decision to change the course of our lives can happen when we’re young or old, when we’re in established careers or when we’re unemployed. Others can make the choice more difficult, but no one can ever really take it away – we all have the ability to do what we want to do and be who we’d like to be. The greatest power is always the power of choice.

Of course, for some the choice to succeed in their dreams is a lot easier than it is for others. That’s why we should remember that we don’t have to do it alone. Whether it’s with the help of a trusted friend or family member, a counselor, an insightful book or a personal development program, we can make use of our greatest power. We can consciously make a choice to change ourselves and become who we really want to be, and their help may be what we need to stick with it. So, even when things look dark, make sure you remember – choice is our greatest power.

I am excited about a book I am reading-(you mentioned insightful books!) “When The Moon Is Dark We CAn See The Stars” by Pamela Prime. (www.whenthemoonisdark.com). It is the authors story of her spiritual awakening, but it touches on so many other things! Grief, life changes, core beliefs…and it is like a workbook with questions at the end of each chapter. I have been feeling low, and without direction…and am finding solace in this book. Need to keep growing even though am feeling stuck. Thanks for your website!!
